The new-generation M-Class offers a choice of three superb diesel engines, each combining outstanding performance with impressive fuel economy.
The V6 units include the ML 280 CDI and the ML 320 CDI, which power the M-Class from 0-62 mph in 9.8 seconds and 8.6 seconds respectively.
Both engines achieve combined fuel economy figures of 30.1 mpg. The ML 420 CDI raises the bar even higher. This incredible V8 diesel unit produces up to 306 hp, peak torque of 700 Nm and a 0-62 mph time of just 6.5 seconds.
Yet it still delivers 26.6 mpg combined. Superb ride comfort, off-road and on When the M-Class launched back in 1998, it re-wrote the rules for SUV performance.
Here was a genuine off-roader that delivered a superb on-road driving experience. This latest M-Class maintains those high standards, thanks in part to its front and rear axle concept with steel suspension.
Robust enough to cope with tough terrain, this innovative suspension set-up ensures impeccable handling and driving dynamics on ordinary road surfaces. Ride quality and comfort are further enhanced by optional AirMATIC air suspension (standard on ML 420 CDI, ML 500 and ML 63 AMG).
This features self-levelling control and three different ride heights. AirMATIC keeps the vehicle at a constant ride height regardless of vehicle load. The vehicle is automatically lowered at high speeds to reduce drag and fuel consumption. In addition, ground clearance can be manually increased on rough off-road terrain.
 
 
Effortless control
 
For maximum control and convenience, the new-generation M-Class features speed-sensitive power steering as standard.
The system adjusts the level of power assistance according to the speed you’re travelling. When cruising along a motorway, you’ll receive minimal assistance to ensure straight-line stability and smooth lane changes. At low speeds power assistance is increased – helping you make light work of those tricky parking manoeuvres.
