Apartments & accommodation

Ivanica, a Herzegovinan village with a magnificent view on the Dubrovnik Riviera. Only 5 km from the nicest beaches in the area.

Our properties are located in the village called Ivanica on the hills overlooking the Dubrovnik Riviera in the border region between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, on the Herzegovinian side, at a distance of 5 km from the sea and 8km from Dubrovnik.

The distance to Trebinje, the nearest city in Bosnia-Herzegovina is15 km.

The village used to be a very popular vacation settlement for people from all over former Yugoslavia, but it was mostly favoured by people from Dubrovnik who wanted to escape the summer crowds and the heat in Dubrovnik.

The post-war revival of Ivanica has had a slow start, but is quickly picking up. Due to the ionised sea air, the hills above Dubrovnik are well known as an air-health-spa which is very beneficial for those with respiratory problems.

HOW TO GET THERE

BY AIR
The International airport Cilipi is located at a distance of 20 km from Ivanica and has very good connections with all major European cities. From there you will need a car to reach Ivanica.

BY BOAT
The international harbor is located in the city of Dubrovnik and the Yacht marina is 7km from Ivanica. From there you will need a car to get to Ivanica. www.jadrolinija.hr/

BY CAR
From the direction of Split You follow the E65 until you pass Dubrovnik. 2 km from Dubrovnik you will find a road going to the left. There is a sign “Gornji Brgat” indicating the direction to drive. You pass Brgat and drive up the hill until you reach the Croatian-Bosnian border. Ivanica starts immediately after the border crossing. The second road to the left at the sign “Kafana Andric” will lead you up the hill where our properties are located.
The apartments are at the foot of the hill, and the house is at the top of the hill. From the direction of Cavtat and Dubrovnik airport You follow the coastal road E80 in the direction of Dubrovnik. You pass Plat, Mlini, Kupari. Before you reach Dubrovnik there is a road to the right with the sign “Gornji Brgat”. You pass Brgat and drive up the hill until you reach the Croatian-Bosnian border. Ivanica is immediately after the border crossing. The second road to the left at the sign “Kafana Andric” will lead you up the hill to both our properties.

From the direction of Trebinje
From Trebinje you take the only road to Dubrovnik. Just after the sign that indicates that you have reached Ivanica, you turn to the right at the sign “Kafana Andric”. The road up will lead you to both our properties.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
There is very poor public transportation from Ivanica. You will definitely need a car. If you have no car of your own we can help you rent one.
Taxi is also an option. There is a frequent bus service operating along the coast line going to/from Dubrovnik. We suggest you take the bus to go in the city as it is impossible to find a parking place in the city itself during the summer months. There are regular public boats to the islands.

BEACHES AND SWIMMING POOLS
There are several beaches down the hill in the small places along the sea like Kupari, Srebreno (beach very suitable for children), Mlini, Plat and Cavtat. There are 2 major beaches in the city of Dubrovnik, one is called Ploce (in the old city) and the other one in Lapad. Some hotels have swimming pools which could be used by outside visitors.
In Trebinje there are two outdoor public swimming pools.

SHOPPING
There is a large shopping center called “Getro” down the hill , 3 km from Ivanica in the direction to Mlini. Prices are reasonable and it is well stocked. In Ivanica there is one shop along the main road where you can buy necessary supplies. Cheapest shopping is in Trebinje where you have an open air market every morning until 12.00 h. Several well stocked supermarkets are opened all day until late in the evening.

CURRENCY
In Bosnia-Herzegovina you pay in both EUR and in KM (Bosnian mark). In Croatia you pay with the Croatian currency called Kuna. You can exchange at any bank or exchange office. Credit cards are accepted at most places.

RESTAURANTS
There are only two cafe/restaurants in Ivanica itself. But there are plenty of others in the region. Printed information will be supplied in each of the properties and your contact person can also help you.

GOING OUT, SIGHTSEEING, EXCURSIONS
Ivanica is a restful place where one should enjoy the peace and quiet. Unlike Dubrovnik and Trebinje, there is no nightlife to speak of in Ivanica. Rather, one should relax and/or explore the surroundings, nearby beaches and the various sightseeing and cultural activities on offer. There are regular boat trips to the islands or one can go inland into Bosnia-Herzegovina to visit famous places like Medjugorje, Mostar and Sarajevo, or make adventurous excursions to the cave Vjetrenica or go rafting on the river Neretva. We can provide you with further information upon request.
